4 selfie cameras: On Vivo's new patent redefines weird

2019 has been like one large war against bezels, and hole-punch displays seem to be one of the winners. On the alternative side, dual-, triple-, and quadruple-digital camera setups grew more and more common. Perhaps Chinese enterprise Vivo desired to capitalize on those trends, due to the fact it’s released a new patent with 4 digital camera cutouts.

Yes, that’s right- not one, no longer two, now not even 3, but 4 hole-punch selfie cameras. The new patent, spotted by means of GizChina, actually outlines three special approaches a quadruple selfie smartphone could work.

One such model sports cameras each within the top right and higher left of the display, with a sliver of the show visible between the sensors. Another is similar, with every top corner getting a cluster of two cameras, type of like the Galaxy S10 Plus. The last one is the most bizzare, with a hole-punch in every of the four corners.

Vivo’s patent doesn’t honestly say what capability its designs may provide, which increases the question- why precisely would you need four selfie cameras? A few opportunities come to mind: the difference in function among the cameras could make for higher 3-d depth mapping, or perhaps some smart sewing software could make for pseudo-wide-attitude groupies.

Unfortunately, the cause for more than one selfie camera seems like an uphill war for that reason far. Current phones have no problem with intensity sensing, or even the S10 Plus’s double cutout doesn’t offer any special functionality.

Of course, the patent isn’t proof that Vivo is growing any such phone or ever will, it’ll possibly be a hard sell. At the very least, it’s an interesting idea that pushes the limits of the modern-day cell landscape.
